What is impulsive behaviour?

People with impulsive behavior may have difficulty controlling their urges, making decisions based on immediate gratification rather than considering the long-term effects of their actions.

Impulsive behaviour may lead to substance abuse, engaging in dangerous and risky behavior, emotional outbursts, spending money recklessly and interrupting others.

Young adults with impulsive behaviour

Impulsive behavior can have a significant impact on the lives of young adults, affecting their relationships, academic or career goals, and overall well-being. Young adults with impulsive behavior may struggle with decision-making, self-control, and managing their emotions, which can lead to a range of negative consequences.

Treatment of impulsive behaviour

Impulsive behavior can be a symptom of various mental health conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), borderline personality disorder (BPD), or bipolar disorder. However, impulsive behavior can also occur in people without a mental health diagnosis. Therapy helps young adults cope with personal struggles and gives them tools for a vital future. The Grange Youth Clinic offers a unique program which helps young adults deal with mental health issues.
