Aggressive behaviour

Aggressive behaviour is often used for a practical purpose by young people. To conceal their own insecurity or to show power, for example.

Aggressive behaviour, parents and young adults

Parents often feel that they have to act as an aggressive person, if they do not have such aggression. This may lead to a situation where one loses all control and the tone between young adults and adults gets very tense and hectic. Both young adults and adults should learn how to handle their own feelings.

Some researchers think that aggressive behaviour can be traced back to the age of three. Especially when young adults react aggressively, they often do not take the consequences into account. If you shout at other people only when you are angry, you have little patience and no impulse control.

Characteristics of aggressive behaviour

Aggressive behaviour can be external or internal. Examples of external aggression are vandalism, swearing, humiliating, arson and bullying. Internalised aggression is characterized by various forms of self-harm (injuring oneself), such as scratching and cutting, hitting walls or doors with one's head. Both forms can arise from unpleasant experiences from the past, a trauma for example.
